Our Faith

One Lord • One Faith • One Baptism

Every organization that endures across generations owes its longevity to a shared purpose, common convictions, and deeply rooted values. The Church of the Nazarene is no exception. Its mission is to preach, teach, and embody holiness of heart and life.

Our faith is more than an intellectual acceptance of a set of doctrines. It is a living relationship with the living God, an active trust that transforms our hearts, enlightens our minds, and directs our wills. It is the foundation of our hope, the source of our peace in times of trial, and the strength that moves us to love and serve our neighbors. We confess this faith together, not as a mere human tradition, but as the eternal truth revealed by God in Scripture.

We believe that God has fully revealed Himself in Jesus Christ, His only Son, who came to seek and save the lost. Through His sinless life, atoning death, and glorious resurrection, He opened the way of salvation to all who repent and believe. This Good News is not reserved for a select few; it is intended for every people, language, and nation. Therefore, we are committed to proclaiming the Gospel with clarity, compassion, and courage to the ends of the earth.

Our spiritual heritage reminds us that the Christian faith is not merely a matter of belief; it is expressed through a transformed life. God’s grace, received through faith, accomplishes a deep work within us: the forgiveness of sins, the regeneration of the heart, and entire sanctification through the Holy Spirit. This work of grace does not end at conversion; it continues throughout our lives, making us increasingly like Christ. We believe that holiness is not an unattainable ideal, but a reality God makes possible for those who fully devote themselves to Him.

What We Believe

GOD

We believe in one God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is eternal, almighty, omniscient, and perfect in love, justice, and mercy. He is the Creator of all things, visible and invisible, and sustains the universe by His powerful word. He is worthy of all worship, praise, and obedience.

THE SCRIPTURES

We believe that the books of the Old and New Testaments, given by divine inspiration, contain all the truth necessary for our faith and Christian life. Scripture is the written Word of God and constitutes our supreme authority and our rule of faith and conduct. It lights our path, guides our way, and teaches us who God is, who we are, and how to live in a manner that pleases Him.

HUMANITY

We believe that all human beings are created in the image of God, but that through sin they are separated from Him and affected by a fallen nature inclined toward evil. This separation brings guilt, corruption, and death. Nevertheless, God does not abandon humanity in this condition. He calls us to repentance, offers us forgiveness, and invites us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ.

SALVATION

We believe that those who persist in refusing to repent are eternally lost, but that the atoning work of Jesus Christ is intended for all humanity. Whoever repents and believes in Him is justified, regenerated, and delivered from the dominion of sin. Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace, received through faith and not earned by works, so that no one may boast. Through this salvation, we become children of God and heirs of eternal life.

SANCTIFICATION

We believe that believers are to be entirely sanctified after regeneration through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. This work of grace cleanses the heart from original sin and fills it with the perfect love of God. It frees us from the power of sin and enables us to love God with all our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves. Sanctification is not a passive state, but a daily walk in obedience, devotion, and fellowship with God.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth and to the entire sanctification of believers. He is the Comforter, Guide, and Teacher who leads us into all truth. He grants us the gifts needed to serve the Church and the world, and produces His fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We depend on His presence and power to live according to God’s will and fulfill the mission entrusted to us.

OUR HOPE

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ will return, that the dead will be raised, and that the final judgment will take place. This hope is not merely a wish, but a certainty founded on the promises of God. Christ will return to gather His people, bring His reign to fulfillment, and judge the living and the dead. As we await that day, we are called to live in faithfulness, hope, and love, knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Core Values

Christian · Holiness · Mission. Our core values express the essence of our identity. They support our denomination’s vision and help shape our culture, our commitments, and the way we serve.

Christian means that we belong to Christ, bear His name, and seek to live according to His example. It involves personal faith in Him, complete trust in His finished work on the cross, and obedience motivated by love. To be a Christian is to recognize that we are sinners saved by grace and that our entire lives belong to the Lord.

Holiness means that we are called to be holy as God is holy. This holiness does not arise from human perfection, but from the work of divine grace within us. It begins with the new birth, continues through entire sanctification, and is expressed in a life devoted to God that rejects evil and seeks what pleases Him. It does not produce pride, but humility, because it is God’s work in our lives.

Mission means that we are sent into the world to share God’s love and proclaim the Gospel to all creation. We are not called to remain among ourselves, but to reach out to others, love, serve, and bear witness to Christ. Mission is not merely an activity of the Church; it is an integral part of our Christian identity. Every believer is called to live out and proclaim the Good News wherever God has placed them.

Articles of Faith

To preserve the heritage entrusted to us by God and remain faithful to the faith once delivered to the saints, particularly the doctrine and experience of entire sanctification as a second work of grace, we affirm the Articles of Faith, the Covenant of Christian Character, and the articles concerning the organization and government of the Church as expressions of our ecclesial identity.

These articles do not claim to replace Scripture. They present in an organized manner the biblical convictions that form the foundation of our faith and practice. They unite us with believers across generations and places, reminding us that we belong to a great spiritual family that spans the centuries. They encourage us to stand firm in the faith, preserve the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace, and faithfully pass this heritage on to future generations.

Our prayer is that this faith will not remain merely an inheritance from the past, but will become a living reality in our daily lives. May it shape our thoughts, words, and actions. May it lead us to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. And may we, by the grace of God, remain faithful until the day when faith gives way to sight and our hope is fulfilled in the eternal joy of His presence.
